Our Vision

The Elgin Grabouw Residents and Ratepayers Association (EGRRA) envisions a diverse and inclusive community. We strive for efficient and equitable delivery of services, ensuring all residents can live with dignity and work together in harmony.

Moreover, we dedicate ourselves to addressing and resolving community issues through collaborative efforts. By fostering a sense of unity and shared responsibility, we empower residents to engage actively.

Furthermore, we actively engage with local authorities and stakeholders to cultivate a supportive environment that ensures everyone hears concerns and benefits from effective solutions

What is EGRRA ?

The Elgin and Grabouw Residents and Ratepayers Association (EGRRA) operates as a non-political, non-profit civil society organization. We commit to the sustainable development of the Valley while advocating for residents' and ratepayers' interests, particularly regarding quality municipal services in exchange for rates paid. EGRRA is governed by a voluntary Executive Committee, which acts as the representative body for "the South" of the Theewaterskloof (TWK) Municipality.

We actively collaborate with the TWK Local Municipality, other relevant government bodies, and appointed organizations such as SAPS. Additionally, we maintain strong ties with Ward Councillors, Neighbourhood Watches, and various local, provincial, and national entities.

Membership in EGRRA is open to any resident or ratepayer within the TWK Municipality, including residential estates, which is defined by the TWK Municipality's geographic boundaries. EGRRA represents roughly 30,000 households across wards 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14. Membership requests from outside this area are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Our members are active, engaged citizens who are passionate about their community. If you would like to know more about us, you can connect with our members through the EGRRA platform. They use their collective influence to drive positive change. Furthermore, members receive vital information and in-depth analysis of municipal financial affairs, performance reports, and Council matters through email, WhatsApp, our website, and social media channels.

We are continuously expanding our expertise by encouraging members to join our Executive Committee and various specialised subcommittees. To get involved, please reach out to us at info@egrra.co.za.

Our aim is to

Generate public awareness
Seek close cooperation with the Municipality
Harness the energy of the community for action

Inform, encourage and activate the community for the common good
Provide community-based information for the betterment of the Elgin Valley

The EGRRA Committee & its Activities

Committee members elect themselves at the annual AGM or join as needed. Each member brings a specific area of expertise and interest to the group. The main EGRRA committee holds monthly meetings to address relevant matters and engage with various sub-committees. In addition to email, the committee actively uses a dedicated WhatsApp group for internal communication.

Committee members also participate in various organizations, representing significant geographical areas and NPOs. They regularly attend Ward committee and Council meetings, and TWK recognizes them as a representative community organization under various acts and regulations.

By cultivating a network of contacts, the committee leverages its influence within TWK structures, Ward committees, and other community organizations to address issues, raise concerns, and provide valuable input and feedback.

EGRRA continuously expands its communication channels to engage with the TWK community. These include the newly updated website, quarterly newsletters, media articles, a members’ WhatsApp group, and a Facebook page.
